Zinfandel

Zinfandel is a chic restaurant featuring
rich wooden floors and stark white walls displaying modern
works of art. The food here is Napa Valley cuisine, hence the
name of the restaurant and includes starters such as chilli
glazed salt and pepper squid salad and Brie and red-flame
grape quesadilla. The mains are a choice of gourmet brick
fired pizzas with topping such as caramelised pear,
soufflé-gorgonzola and prosciutto or rotisserie and
char-grill dishes. Although this is still a relatively new
restaurant in the area it is already a firm favourite.
Yellow

With the help of consultant chef Ken Hom the
Yellow River Café chain of restaurants is going from strength
to strength. The relaxed, bright and modern style dinning
areas and the sensibly priced pan-Asian menu draw in plenty of
custom. Main course dishes include Thai curries, crispy chilli
beef and wok fried scallops and it’s also worth knowing that
they run a takeaway service too.
Olivo

Olivo is an Italian restaurant set in a
lovely Grade 1 listed building on Quarry Street. The
restaurant features the original oak beamed ceiling that sets
the style of the place but there’s also the option to dine
al fresco during the summer months. The menu is divided into
pasta, pizza, meat and fish dishes giving diners all the
variety they could possibly desire. Dishes of particular note
include mussels baked with a garlic, parsley and Gorgonzola
sauce and the linguine pasta with prawns, langoustine, scampi,
mussels and clams, in a tomato garlic and white wine sauce.
Café Rouge 8-9 Chapel Street (01483 451221) Amongst the numerous restaurants on Guildford’s Chapel Street is a little taste of France in the form of a branch of Café Rouge. Here you’ll find classic French dishes such as steak and frites or croque monsieur with affordable wines and great coffees that make for an unremarkable but nevertheless pleasing meal out.
